Basement + Pantry Organization

The client was a very busy and pregnant mom who was looking to create more space for their growing family. The basement (like all of us), had become a drop-off point for things they did not quite know what to do with. In addition, the basement is where they store their back stock pantry, in case of food shortages or keeping things on hand they often use.

This was a multi-faceted project:

Organizing the pantry - creating a meaningful system for them to see what they have, use what they need, and keep replenishing as necessary. The client is an avid canner and professional baker - so it was important to make those areas readily accessible.

Creating basement space - since their family is expanding, they wanted their finished basement to be a place where they could hangout, watch their AMAZING VHS collection of Disney movies, play foosball, or listen to something on vinyl.

Creating pour-painting station - client is also a professional painter, but she does not have a ton of time for it. We reallocated great shelf-space to keep all her paints in RGBIV order, but also keep them accessible in case creativity strikes. We organized her other supplies, and took down her table. This created a ton of space for hanging out.

Memory storage and organization - they have a wonderful collection of childhood toys, and items given by grandparents. They needed to be kept and safe from small children. We were able to use a closet and tuck the items on shelves or in bins. It was important to keep them further back in the closet since they do not need to be readily used.

Holiday storage and organization - but where to put the tree!? The eternal question. The same closet doubled as a great area to wrestle and store an artificial Christmas tree, as well as other holiday decorations. We kept these easy-to-access for the upcoming holiday season.

Total Organizing Time - 27 hours

Product Budget - $200

“Libby is such a godsend! She’s a great listener and is incredibly sensitive to all of the (sometimes unexpected!) feelings that can bubble up while navigating the declutter process. She is naturally gifted with a strong sense of ingenuity and intuition how best to downsize, reorganize, and even repurpose items and make spaces make sense again. Highly recommend hiring her to help tackle and overcome the overwhelm!”
